Error Message after installing Windows XP on a Windows Vista system

Published by admin at 12:37 am under Data Recovery

The dual boot systems enable you to use features of two different operating systems on a single computer system. A user can install two different operating systems starting from the older one. It is preferred to partition the hard disk first and create at least two partitions. However, problems might occur when you install an older operating system like Windows XP on a Windows Vista system. In such situations, you receive an error message at system startup and data saved in the hard drive becomes inaccessible. If you have not maintained any updated data backup, you need to use advanced Data Recovery Software to access the data.

Consider a practical scenario, where a user has a Windows Vista based system and he installs Windows XP on a different partition. After the installation process is complete, when the user restarts the computer, he encounters the below error message:

“A disk read error has occurred. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart.”

The user receives the same error message each time he restarts the computer system after pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL key combination. After the above error message appears, the data saved in the hard disk becomes inaccessible. The main cause of the above error message is that the user has installed a version of Windows that is older than Windows Vista. The problem arises because the Setup process in the previous version of Windows attempts to overwrite the boot sector on the main Windows Vista partition.

Resolution:

To resolve the above error and access the data saved in the hard drive, the user needs to follow these steps:

  • The user should install earlier Windows XP on the primary boot partition.
  • Then the user needs to install Windows Vista on a new partition.
  • If the user wants to start from more than one Windows operating system, install the earliest version of Windows first, and then install the later versions in their order of release. Here, the user needs to firstly install Windows XP operating system and then Windows Vista operating system.
  • The user needs to install each operating system according to the standard installation procedure.

To access the data saved in the hard drive, the user needs to use powerful Data Recovery applications. Data Recovery Software employ effective and high-end scanning methods to recover and restore inaccessible data from hard drives.
