X Series is the most popular series of laptops developed by IBM. These laptops have unique configuration with high speed process and memory. These are less prone to failure as their data storage technology on hard drive is quite different. These systems use Shock-Mounted Hard Drives.

These hard drives come with special metal covers and the platters of the hard drive are highly reflective. Because of the metal cover on the drive these are shock proof and there are less chances of short circuit. These drives have a screwdriver bit that is placed into one of six screws that clamp the stack of platters and spacers. In the center, below the screws and clamping plate, is the motor that spins the platters.

The head structure of the drive is also very different. There is more space between platters and the head of the hard drive when the drive is not working. Since the drive is not in operation, the head is simply pressed against the disk by the suspension. Continue Reading »
